ARLINGTON, TX—The team of talented writers responsible for weaving the elaborate and compelling story lines that have unfolded in the first four games of this year’s World Series are considering including the death of Rangers catcher Mike Napoli in an upcoming episode in hopes of boosting the series’ ratings.
The World Series ratings have been at historical lows this year despite fascinating plot twists and character development, leaving the writing team with few other options to capture viewers.
“Well, we tried doing it the ‘right’ way,” lead writer Natalie Hastings told her 13-person staff. “The ratings just aren’t there. People don’t seem to care about quality drama or subtleties, they want over the top.”
“What if we killed off Napoli?” asked script supervisor Craig Lancaster. “With his performance of late, he’s becoming a prominent character, so his death will create buzz, but people aren’t too attached to him that’ll they’ll not watch should he be gone.”
