TAMPA, FL—Joba Chamberlain’s run of good luck continued on Thursday, as the Yankee relief pitcher was awarded naming rights to yet another major surgical procedure. Joba Chamberlain Surgery Type 4, which is now the official name given to surgery performed on an open ankle dislocation caused by a trampoline related accident, is the fourth operation to be named after the pitcher and his second in as many years, after Tommy John Surgery was officially renamed Joba Chamberlain Surgery Type 3 in June of last year.
“It’s an honor,” said a proud Chamberlain from his bed post-surgery. “Most guys never have one surgery named after them. I’m blessed to have four. To have my name whispered with reverence in the hallowed halls of hospitals and to go down in the medical textbooks is something special.”
Though likely out for the 2012 season, Chamberlain is expected to make a return next year as he goes for his fifth named surgery and record third in a row.
