LOS ANGELES — In the dead of night, just after screwing USC’s football program and breaking his Trojans, head coach Pete Carroll snuck out the window, reportedly heading to Seattle. “When we woke up this morning Pete was gone,” said USC athletic director Mike Garrett. “Now we’re under investigation for alleged booster gifts, our best running back and backup quarterback are gone, and we’re coming off a crap season and a ‘who cares’ Emerald Bowl appearance.” Garrett was obviously still in shock and denial. “I thought we had something special,” Garrett said. “I thought Pete would be here forever. But then he threw everything away and went running to the Seahawks. Really? The Seahawks? We’re much hotter than the Seahawks. He’ll be back. We’ll wait by the door, and please don’t call. I want to have the line open in case he calls.”
