The police called it simply, "A breakdown in communication."

Whatever it was, campus police at the University of Georgia arrested football player Jordan Lawrence Love for, err, not knowing his middle name when asked by an officer Monday evening.

UGA police Chief Jimmy Williamson told the local paper that campus authorities were investigating a complaint that men were shooting off fireworks in the courtyard of McWhorter Hall.

Police approached Love and later arrested him on a charge of misdemeanor obstruction when he couldn't tell them his middle name.

"Mr. Love gave his first and last name, but he said he didn't know his middle name, then he said he kind of knew it but didn't know how to spell it," Williamson said.

Because the police made an arrest, they are responsible for presenting the information to a judge regardless of whether the charge is ludicrous or not. Williamson didn't accuse his office of poor judgement but did say that Love shouldn't have been arrested and that the police department will...
