What does the fan base need most at a moment like this? Consolement? An avowal to redouble efforts and intensify focus? Both would ring hollow as cliches. The right move, as Melo showed, is to tweet a vaguely pretentious, ill fitting quote from Gangs of New York. Why inspire when you can bewilder?
