With spring training upon us, it’s the time of the year when hundreds of MLB preview articles hit the Internet. Rather than previewing each team one by one, though, TAUNTR.com is going to highlight the five teams that we think will have the worst seasons in 2010. In others words, here are the reasons why it’ll suck to be a fan of the following teams for this upcoming season.
1. San Diego Padres: The Padres went 75-87 in 2009, finishing fourth in the National League West. All in all, it wasn’t a horrible record considering the moves that were made in season, including the trade of ace right-hander Jake Peavy. In actuality, however, San Diego wasn’t as good as even that record shows. The team allowed 131 runs more than it scored, pegging its Pythagorean record—what they should’ve been, outside of luck in close games—at 67-95. On top of that, the Padres are clearly in full rebuild mode. The divorce of former owner John Moores and his wife left the team in financial limbo (take note, L.A. Dodgers fans), forcing the family to sell the team to a new ownership group led by one-time agent Jeff Moorad. The new regime plans to rebuild the organization, led by...
