NEW YORK—Yankee’s manager Joe Girardi had nothing but glowing reviews for Cliff Lee after the Texas Rangers’ pitcher performed flawlessly Monday night in his Yankees tryout. Lee, who held his probable future teammates to only 2 hits in 8 scoreless innings, will be a free agent in the off-season and used an otherwise meaningless game to prove he's worth the millions of dollars that a Yankee pitcher commands. Lee has spent the past few season auditioning for several teams and is now, especially after last night’s performance, expected to finally land his big break with the Yankees. “I don’t want to commit to anything,” said Girardi coyly, “But I think we all saw the same thing out there. If he can shut down the Yankees, he can sure as hell pitch for them. That's always been this team's motto—if you beat us, we’ll outbid everyone else so you can join us.”
