FOXBORO, MA— Billy Cundiff played the roll of hero in yesterday’s AFC Championship game by kicking and horribly missing a game tying 32-yard field goal that saved Lee Evans, who dropped a game winning pass just moments earlier, from being blamed for the Ravens embarrassing loss.
“His leg really saved our team and fans,” said Evans of Cundiff, “from blaming me for blowing the game. I couldn’t tell you, and I think I speak for the entire team when I say what a relief it was to know that Cundiff, and not me, will be linked to single handedly destroying any hopes of us reaching the Super Bowl.”
Despite being the hero, a modest Cundiff tried to down play his roll in saving Evans from psychological, and perhaps even physical, harm. “It was a team effort,” said Cundiff fighting back what were presumably tears of pride and joy. “I hope that people realize other players had a hand in this, I just happened to be out there at the end.”
