LaRussa announces retirement to arresting officer during...class="rtejustify"> ST LOUIS—Having secured his third World Series championship and his legacy as one of baseball’s greatest managers, Tony LaRussa has decided to make a graceful exit from the game of baseball, announcing his retirement early Monday morning during a routine sobriety test.

“Mr. LaRussa, a class act if there ever was one, informed me, in notably slurred speech, that he would not return to managing baseball next year,” wrote Office James Harrow in his arrest report.

News of the arrest shocked many, as LaRussa had given no indication that he would be retiring. “I never would have expected this,” said Cardinals closer Jason Motte. “To just retire out of the blue while being pulled over for suspicion of drunk driving. Good for him though. He’s done it all. He’s got nothing left to prove. He’s leaving on top of the game.”

The city of St. Louis plans on honoring LaRussa for his contributions to the game and community during his trial schedule for December 12th at the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri.
