Westbrook prank leads to real Westbrook injury, out from phone for 4-6 weeks
PHILADELPHIA - Just hours after the Philadelphia Eagles released Brian Westbrook, giving him hope that he might never be injured again, Westbrook suffered an injury in an ESPN-related prank call. The prank call was featured on a live ESPN broadcast and unbeknownst to anchor Scot Van Pelt it was a man pretending to be Brian Westbrook. The real Westbrook was not on the call or near a phone at the time. Experts say the fake Westbrook talked just long enough to get the real Westbrook's ears ringing to a point where an ear drum exploded and resulted in a concussion. The "ringing in the ears when someone talks about you" was thought to be an old wive's tale but now doctors have ordered Westbrook off the phone for 4-6 weeks. This reduction in phone usage couldn't come at a more crucial time in his offseason.
