Virtual Lincecum pissed
SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum on Thursday was named the Cy Young Award winner in the National League for the second consecutive season. Lincecum, who went 15-7 with a 2.48 ERA and led the league with 261 strikeouts, becomes the first pitcher to win back-to-back Cy Young awards since Randy Johnson did so four straight times from 1999-2002. However, his protégé, Virtual Tim Lincecum, was not happy with the voting results. “Human Tim taught me practically everything I know about pitching, and I am grateful for that. Yet again, though, the BBWAA managed to screw the balloting up and go against the obvious winner,” an agitated virtual Lincecum complained. “Sure, it may have hurt me with the writers that I compiled my statistics in a video game, but he was pitching against the lowly N.L. West. And if you want to break it down purely by the numbers, I had the edge in ERA, strikeouts, WHIP and wins. I was a slam dunk.”
