Tebow refuses $66.6M contract

DENVER — Denver Broncos rookie quarterback and 25th pick overall in the 2010 NFL Draft signed a five-year $11.25 million contract with $8.7 guaranteed and a maximum value of $33 million. At first glance this seems like a very lucrative contract for a player who will probably be a third-stringer at the beginning of the season, and may only see a few snaps the entire year. But it is much less than the Broncos original offer of $66.6 million, an offer Tebow quickly refused. “I couldn’t accept that contract,” said Tebow. “6-6-6 is the number of the devil. I couldn’t take the mark of the beast. That would be awful.” Denver then lowered the number considerably to $33 million. “I have to be honest,” said Tebow. “33 is still half of 66 which is just one more six away from being the mark of the beast. But I prayed about it and it seems like a heavenly deal, so I took it.” Tebow’s agent Jimmy Sexton was shocked that Tebow turned down such a huge offer. “I told him, there’s no such thing as the mark of the beast, which really got him angry,” said Sexton. “I told him he could donate half of it to charity, but he said no, so here we are, $33 million poorer. And do you think in five years he’ll be more valuable than he is now? No way in hell...er…uh…heaven. What a moron.”
