Tauntr Links: The Wrath of Mike Shanahan

  • We all know Mike Shanahan can be a bitter, stubborn hardass. I mean, just look at that damn mug at the top of this page. Is that a guy you really want to mess with? Apparently Albert Haynesworth did as he bitched and moaned throughout the offseason about not wanting to play in Shanahan's 3-4 defense. So in return, Haynesworth decided not to show up to offseason OTAs and conditioning. And now he's paying for it. After Haynesworth failed his conditioning test on Thursday and  therefore wasn't allowed to practice, the defensive lineman returned Friday morning to try it again. And on Friday morning, Haynesworth again failed. He will not practice with the team until he passes the conditioning test.
  • Les Carpenter of Yahoo! Sports, who used to cover the Washington Redskins, has a column up about Shanahan. Sure, Shanahan will hold a grudge and will probably never lose one of these bitch-fests that millionaire athletes like to throw. But the pointis, Haynesworth should be doing whatever the hell Shanahan asks of him. You know, that's what comes with signing a $100 million contract. Nothing makes me more sick than seeing athletes demand things after signing big-money deals. Where would Haynesworth be without professional football? Working like everybody else, trying to make a good living to support his family. The financial security football has provided him is unbelievable. Shut up and do your job.
  • Here's video from the T.O. Show in Cinci. His first practice is in the books and there was no ranting. Perfect.
  • Deadspin weighs in on the ESPN-Arash Markazi-LeBron story that was briefly posted before suddenly being pulled from the site. I don't know nearly enough about what happened, and I'm not sure any of us do, to make any comment on the issue. The piece was reportedly only up for about nine hours, and I didn't happen to catch it. It definitely smells fishy, though. I mean, how can Markazi, a good reporter, really do wrong on this assignment? I think he's better than that. Perhaps LeBron's camp gave ESPN grief over the honesty of the piece and therefore ESPN felt pressure to pull it in order to have future access to LeBron? Hmmmmm...
  • And we just had to post this link because, well, it's funny and pokes Rick Pitino. Fun all around. (Wait, should I have used "poke" in the same sentence as Pitino???)
