Saints come clean
NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton admitted the team’s 7-0 start and all prior wins since 2007 have not been for Katrina victims. “We dedicated our 2006 season to the people of the Gulf Coast who were hit by the hurricane,” said Payton, “but after that, we’ve been winning for ourselves.” The Saints, whose resurgence has been used as a crutch metaphor for the rebuilding citizens of New Orleans, have been painted as the new America’s Team by the sports media. “Other than winning for your own pride, to increase your own market value and potential marketability for advertisers, our players don’t need any more motivation than that,” said Payton. “If you’re waiting for me to say that in the fourth quarter, Brees says in the huddle, ‘let’s win this one for little Jimmy so-and-so, he needs a new home,’ you’ll be waiting forever, because that just doesn’t happen.” Payton then cut the red ribbon to unveil the new multi-million dollar levee built in his name.
