Quite Frankly, Stephen A. Smith KNOWS Where LeBron Is GOING

OK, I don't really buy it. Nothing against Stephen A., I like the dude. Think he's a good journalist, a good reporter, and a highly-entertaining radio and TV personality. But does anyone really have the "scoop" on LeBron James and where he is going to take his circus on July 8, the first day free agents can sign with teams?

I don't think so. I think it's nearly impossible to know that information. I don't think LeBron even knows where he is going yet. And it's hard to believe anything at this point because there is always flip-flopping. Even Stephen A. had him going to the Knicks a while back. Guaranteed it.

On Monday, Stephen A. cited his sources and bet the house on LeBron joining Dwyane Wade in Miami and bringing Chris Bosh with him. Said it was a done deal. That's it. LeBron ought to start shopping for homes on Star Island.

I'm going to wait until LeBron meets with teams beginning Thursday, and then I'm going to wait some more. In fact, I'm going to wait until LeBron comes out an announces where he is going instead of blindly guessing and coming up empty.

So no predictions here, but if I had to pick a team or two that has the most likely chance of signing LeBron, then the Heat and Chicago Bulls are the two teams leading this race. And I think LeBron ought to go to Chicago.

Going back to Cleveland? Why would LeBron want to do that? He's given them plenty of years and nothing went right for him there. There's not a ton of talent on the Cavs and if LeBron went back, he'd probably get more of the same. 50-win seasons and on summer vacation before the Finals. I think that chapter is over with in his life.

The Knicks? I have said since the beginning that I don't get this whatsoever. The Knicks are not a good team, they won't be a championship-caliber team with LeBron, and there's no talent there. What, LeBron should go team with Eddie Curry? Look, with Mike D'Antoni at the helm, that team is built to run and score points. Both great things. But if you watched the Finals this year, or the three years, you need size, you need strength, and you need to play defense to win a title. That ain't happening. The Knicks are a poor man's Phoenix Suns. And even the Suns can't win a title with one of the best point guards in the league and a better supporting cast. Scratch the Knicks off the list.

The Nets? Outside chance, but there won't be titles going there. There will be endorsements, Jay-Z parties, Russian strippers, and good times. Hey, if that's what LeBron wants, I don't blame him at all. Go have a ball, big guy. But then we can stop this crap about LeBron being even remotely in the discussion of one of the greatest players we have seen. Physical freak? Yes. Historic player? Wake me up after a couple titles.

Clippers? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Which leaves us with the two big shots, the Heat and Bulls (I suppose Mark Cuban always can throw some money around, but I think Dallas is far-fetched for LeBron). On paper, LeBron, Wade and Bosh all in Miami is frightening. That's a runaway train of championships, if they played together. Team those three with Michael Beasley and Mario Chalmers (or me and you) and they would win. Then just fill in the bench with productive role players who, um, know their role and the Heat are winners.

Problem is, basketball teams aren't played on paper. These are actually real guys with real egos and real minds who demand real attention. I don't see Wade and LeBron as a great fit on the court. They are too similar and they are both alpha dogs in the prime of their careers. LeBron has been driving this whole free-agency party bus for two years now, so you know he isn't conceding any power or spotlight when it comes time for him to sign. But Wade is also a top-5 player in the league, a superstar, a great scorer, and he's in his best years. Why would he conceded "The Man" status to anyone? I don't blame Wade in the least. Hell, he has a title. He's not answering to LeBron.

Both of those guys need to ball to be effective, they both will want the last shot, and when it comes time to take over a game in the fourth quarter, they both are going to crave that challenge. Don't tell me, "Oh, well, the last shot will go to whoever is open." Please. Doesn't work that way. Wade and LeBron will clash. Maybe not publicly, but the chemistry of that team will not be all lovey-dovey like some want us to believe, and there will be friction.

The Bulls, on the other hand, would offer a huge market and good talent. LeBron and Bosh teaming up with a good point guard in Derrick Rose is LeBron's best bet to win multiple championships. There's no question who The Man will be on that team, and don't underestimate that factor.

Sure, playing in MJ's hometown will cause more comparisons, but only from crusty media dopes who don't have any new material or perspective. I've never understood why two big-time stars can't share the same town when they are playing in completely different eras. What, is no great basketball player ever supposed to play for the Bulls again? I don't get that. LeBron should head to Chicago, tell everyone he ain't Jordan, never will be, so enjoy him for what he is and enjoy the subsequent championship parades. And then drop the topic.

Of course, money rules all. Which owners want to spend the money and are potentially willing to be hit with a large luxury tax in order to have LeBron? It's too hard to tell. We will have to wait for official announcement. Which is why nobody can really KNOW anything at this point, even the great Stephen A. Smith.

All good points except that Stephen A. Smith was right.
