Oliver Perez, Missing Since August 1, Is Found
Even at the time, it seemed like a mistake that the New York Mets handed a three-year, $36-million contract to left-hander Oliver Perez back in the winter of 2008. But even the biggest critic couldn’t have envisioned a scenario in which Perez would end up as the colossal bust that he has. The Mets, for their part, have refused to acknowledge the mistake, look at his contract as a sunk cost and release him. Instead, New York has wasted a roster sport on Perez, who has spent all month on the bench. Until last night, he hadn’t appeared in a game since August 1, making his streak of 25 games without an appearance the longest of any player in the majors this season. After an extensive search, the mediocre southpaw was found, in part thanks to Tauntr's missing person campaign.
