Men in underwear surpass monkeys as top Super Bowl Commercial comedy resource
MIAMI — Advertising’s biggest day of the year revealed a shocking new trend from Madison Avenue. For years the primary comedy go-to for Super Bowl commercials has been monkeys, followed closely by talking babies. Although talking babies made a valiant effort with multiple E*Trade commercials, men in underwear took the lead as the top comedy resource for Super Bowl XLIV, featured in Dockers and Career Builder commercials. “In a recession, corporations have to take risks with their advertising,” said ad guru Donny Deutsch. “To go away from a proven laugh riot like monkeys and delve into unknown waters with pasty pants-less guys is a bold move.” Writers from the sitcom 2 and a Half Men took notice. “Look for a tighty-whitied Charlie Sheen this season,” said CBS programming executive Carl Haverworth.
