McKnight to miss Emerald Bowl, didn’t get parents to sign permission slip
LOS ANGELES — USC Trojans star running back Joe McKnight will miss Saturday’s Emerald Bowl game, according to head coach Pete Carroll. The 1,000-yard rusher is under NCAA investigation for driving a $27,000 SUV that is owned by a Santa Monica businessman. “That investigation has nothing to do with this,” said Carroll. “Joe just didn’t get his parents to sign the permission slip to go to San Francisco with the team to the Emerald Bowl by the deadline, so he has to stay home.” Carroll also addressed three other Trojans who did not make the trip. “Tight end Anthony McCoy’s grandmother is in town, right tackle Tyron Smith had a prior commitment to serve food at a soup kitchen and defensive tackle Averell Spicer has chicken pox,” Carroll said. “They are definitely not academically ineligible.” The five remaining USC players will face Boston College Saturday.
