Mangini explains to McCoy: 'Delhomme is up here, but you, you're down here'
CLEVELAND - Cleveland Browns coach Eric Mangini sat down with current third-string rookie quarterback Colt McCoy to explain to him where he measures up on the depth chart. Mangini broke it down in simple terms for the University of Texas grad. Motioning with his hand above his head, the Browns coach told McCoy that quarterback Jake "Delhomme is waaaay up here." And then dropped his other hand to just below his knee and told McCoy that he was "like, way down here." After a few repetitions, it sunk in for McCoy.
"He seemed to get it after a good half hour of walking him through it all," said Mangini. "He's sharp for a Texas kid. I had to let him know that he could be cut. He then wanted to know about Seneca Wallace. He goes, 'Surely, Seneca Wallace isn't better than me, coach?' in his thick southern drawl. He was so cute. But then I put my hand near my chest and explained that Wallace was about right there. He looks at me with his puppy dog eyes and goes, 'Near your heart, coach?' I just lost it right there.
