Lance Berkman Obituary
Recently acquired first baseman Lance Berkman has not exactly gotten off to a swimming start with the New York Yankees. Berkman, who spent his entire career with the Houston Astros before being shipped to New York at the end of July, has collected just five hits in his first 28 at-bats as a Yankee. Even with a 3-for-4, two-double performance against the Boston Red Sox on Sunday Night Baseball, his line sits at a measly .192/.250./.269. As a result of the poor start, the always tough New York fan base has been all over Berkman; of course, most baseball fans in the Bronx lack the brain cells to understand the concept of sample size, but that is an argument for a different day. Making matters worse, however, Berkman injured teammate and Yankees star third baseman Alex Rodriguez by hitting him with a line drive in batting practice prior to Saturday's game. Rodriguez, reportedly distracted by Fox announcer Joe Buck, was forced out of the lineup as a result of the ensuing injury. Unsurprisingly, Berkman was serenaded with boos every time that he stepped to the plate that afternoon. And just two days later comes this morning's horrific news above that Berkman's body was discovered near new Yankee Stadium. Police are currently investigating the crime, but the only details available are included in his obituary above.
