Kurt Warner unaffected by USC sanctions on behalf of Matt Leinart
LOS ANGELES — Arizona Cardinals quarterback Matt Leinart was asked by reporters recently if the NCAA sanctions on USC had any affect on his championship run with the Trojans. Before he was able to get the answer out of his mouth, retired quarterback Kurt Warner jumped in front of Leinart to respond on belhalf of him. “As far as the sanctions against my alma mater USC,” said a heartfelt Warner, “it doesn’t affect me at all. Nothing can take away the pride I feel for what I accomplished while leading that Trojan team to the national championship. You can say what you will, and maybe some of my teammates did break rules, but you can’t say we didn’t go out on that field and whip everyone we played.” Leinart began to speak after Warner’s interjection, but Warner continued. “Matt will speak when he’s ready. Right now I’m the leader of this press conference. Sure he may have been the first-round pick, and maybe he hasn’t been given the chance to succeed, but coach Whisenhunt has confidence in me, right now, leading this press conference. At some point I will hand the baton over to Matt when he’s ready.”
