Karen Sypher on Thursday was convicted on all counts of attempting to extort money from Louisville head basketball coach Rick Pitino. Sypher, who tried to extort millions from Pitino while threatening to go public with information about their 15-second sexual encounter in 2003 at an upscale Louisville restaurant, faces a maximum prison sentence of 26 years.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A Kentucky woman was convicted Thursday of demanding millions of dollars from Rick Pitino to keep secret their one-night stand in a restaurant and then claiming the Louisville basketball coach raped her after he reported the extortion.

Karen Cunagin Sypher, 50, of Louisville, was found guilty of three counts of extortion, two counts of lying to the FBI and one count of retaliating against a witness. She stared at the ceiling as the verdict was read, while one of her sons wept openly.

The case involved a 2003 sexual encounter between Pitino and Sypher, a former model at car shows, at a table inside an Italian restaurant closed for the night. Pitino testified she came on to him and the sex was consensual. After she was charged, Sypher told police it was rape but Pitino was never charged.

Last year, Pitino received three threatening phone calls and two letters demanding cash and gifts for Sypher to keep the tryst secret. One of the letters showed to the jury was a handwritten note from Sypher that asked for cars, tuition for her children and her mortgage to be paid off.

Although Sypher was found guilty, there were no real winners here; outside of Kentucky fans, perhaps. Pitino comes off as an adulterer whose sexual stamina (or lack thereof) will now forever be an infinite source of ridicule and taunting ammo for Wildcats fans. He did nothing wrong, from a legal perspective, but there is truly no telling how much the fallout resulting from the sordid details released during this week’s trial will ultimately affect his ability to recruit.

Sypher, though, is a definite loser. She came off as a total whore during the trial this week, when word came out that she gave practically every man—including her initial lawyer in the case and the man who made the threatening phone calls to Pitino—in Louisville a blowjob. She is forever disgraced, and now will have to spend several years in prison, away from her children.

The biggest loser of all? Men looking for easy BJs in the Derby city. As the forecast in the chart gif above shows, while Sypher is in prison, the rate of consistent blow jobs will go down in the Ville. For many men, next year's Kentucky Derby won't be quite as interesting.
