My favorite line in that classic “I Love My Ducks” viral video was: “Holy mole, is that my boy Masoli?” Well, if the group, Supwitchugurl, was really asking that question while witnessing a pair of laptops being stolen from a campus fraternity, then, yes, that may have indeed been their boy Masoli.
Masoli, the talented Oregon Ducks’ QB who led the team to a Pac-10 championship, and a teammate are alleged to have stolen two MacBook Pro computers from a fraternity on campus. He and the teammate, wide receiver Garrett Embry, have not been charged with a crime yet, but the case is pending further investigation.
The Oregonian:
“The Eugene Police Department on Monday confirmed that its officers are investigating an alleged theft, and the student who reported the incident has told The Oregonian that the men he accuses are University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and wide receiver Garrett Embry.
Fraternity member Max Wolfard filed a report with police alleging that the players took two MacBook Pro computers -- one valued by its owner at $2,000, the other by its owner at $1,500 -- and a $900 guitar from the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house at 812 E. 14th Ave. in Eugene early Sunday.
Garrett Embry is named in a police report but has not been charged. Neither Masoli, 21, nor Embry, 19, has been charged with a crime.”
It is too early to draw ultimate conclusions until more facts emerge, of course. Every person in this country is innocent until proven guilty. Either way, though, this is definitely not good news for the Ducks. Masoli, who threw for 2,147 yards and 15 touchdowns while rushing for 13 more scores this past season, returns as one of the most talented senior quarterbacks in the nation. Losing him to suspension (or if he gets kicked off the team) would be a tremendous blow to their chances of defending the conference crown.
