Boston Celtics reserve big man Glen “Big Baby” Davis has been excellent during the team’s postseason run. Although essentially just a role player, Davis has played a big part in the Celtics’ run to the Eastern Conference finals with his valuable contributions off the bench.
Consider these numbers, as compiled by NBA.com colleague John Schuhmann: In 199 regular-season games, Davis has scored 15 points or more 14 times. He has reached 17 on nine occasions and scored at least 20 four times. Yet in just 45 playoff games across three springs, Davis has scored 15 or more 10 times. He's been good for 17 points in eight games and has hit 20 or more six times.
True, Davis often cries like a little bitch, has had numerous off-court issues and is annoying as Kevin Garnett’s protégé—even if Garnett is only explaining the plot of Lost to him. For those reasons, it is easy to make fun or just loathe the big fella from Louisiana. But there is no denying that Big Baby has been a valuable asset to the Boston franchise since being drafted out of LSU.
Attracting equal attention as the excellent play off the bench this playoffs, though, is Big Baby’s strange tongue dance caught on TV during Game 4 of the Celtics-Orlando Magic series. As Jim Nancy pointed out to me, it looked like he was eating soup. While weird, the tongue action would surely make Gene Simmons proud and provided tauntr's gif expert, Fred McGiff, with some inspiration.
