Floyd Landis is back in the news again. Remember the guy that won the 2006 Tour de France that was later stripped of his win due to allegations of doping but he denied it for the longest time until he realized no one is talking about him anymore so he decided to come out and say that, Surprise! He'd been blood doping and using performance enhancing drugs throughout his entire career? Shocking! And also, he fingered Lance Armstrong. Oh Noes!
So far, two reactions to this story seem valid.
1) Landis loves lying and getting attention.
or
2) No shit.
Do sports fans care? I'm sure cycling fans do. But let's be honest, cycling isn't baseball. Baseball inspires generation after generation of kids. Blah blah blah American pastime, I know. But baseball players, in the eyes of little kids, are heroes. Allegations of anything unnatural in baseball is a big deal. Football is what it is. But whatever, cycling doesn't mean crap compared to baseball. And if everybody is doing it in the sport as Floyd suggests, does it really matter?
Also, let's be honest. cycling is friggin' hard. And blood doping sounds equally hard. Check out that bloodfill gif of Armstrong showing Landis the ropes over there. Kudos to you if you can figure out that science and also ride on a bike for 21 days straight. I went to spin class the other day and every single song throughout the workout felt as long as "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida." You're damn straight I wanted drugs and blood by the end of it.
I will say though, if we should feel bad for anyone, it's Nike. They've had a tough year between Woods and Roethlisberger. Now this.
