Donald Driver leaps into crowd after winning Dancing with Stars, injures 5
LOS ANGELES—The thrill of victory turned out to be the agony of defeat for several people in attendance at the season finale of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars as Donald Driver, conditioned by years of jubilantly performing the famed Lambeau Leap, vaulted into the unexpecting crowd after his victory, severely injuring 5 audience members.
The spectators were all rushed to nearby Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to be treated for injuries ranging from cracked ribs, collapsed lungs and fractured vertebrae. Three have since been release while two remain in critical but stable condition.
Driver expressed remorse for the event, but also deflected blame. “It’s sad that those people were injured,” said Driver. “But when you put a ball in my hand, whether it’s a football or the Mirror Ball Trophy, and you say I just scored, well, instinct tells me to jump into the crowd, and you can’t fault a man for acting on instinct.”
