If anything, people have proven time and time again that you can royally fuck up and still hold political office or be a prominent public figure. Kill a chick in a drunk driving accident on Cape Cod? Congrats, you're Senator of Massachusetts for like 5 decades. Huff paint as a kid and blow coke in college? Straight to the Oval Office with you cowboy.

So, by extension, I imagine the stereotypical friendly Canadians are as forgiving as their Yankee neighbors.
