New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady avoids playing in the Pro Bowl like the plague. Brady ducks out of playing in the event every winter, it seems, with some type of injury. If I were married to Giselle Bunchden, I guess I would try to do so as well. So it’s hard to blame him too much. Plus, with all of the health issues that he had this year, the announcement yesterday was inevitable and his reason for doing so is actually legitimate.
Overlooked Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub will replace Brady on the roster. If I were to ask a casual fan to tell me who led the NFL in passing yards, there are several names that would quickly come to mind. Manning. Favre. Romo. Brees. Rodgers.
But the NFL passing leader was actually Schaub, who threw for 4,770 yards and finished seventh in the league with a 97.6 passer rating. Granted, his league lead is largely the function of the Texans’ offensive style, since they throw the ball all the time, and having stud wide receiver Andre Johnson as a target. Regardless, though, he was arguably a more deserving candidate than Brady, the NFL Comeback Player of the Year, even before the latter pulled out. He just got overlooked nationally by playing for a Houston team that just missed a postseason berth.
