Bowden retires

TALLAHASSEE- Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden decided to retire on Tuesday after 34 years on the job, stating that "there's really nothing going on around here anyway." After leading the Seminoles to a National Championship in 1999, and a few conference titles earlier in the decade, Bowden decided it was time to take a break. Florida State president T.K. Wetherell told reporters that he gave the longtime coach a nice gift basket after his notes telling him to "get the hell out of here" went largely ignored. Wetherell spoke briefly to Bowden after the announcement, saying, "He's really looking forward to taking it easy and maybe traveling while not getting paid and coaching a nationally recognized NCAA team."
