Another Reason To Root For (Or Against) The Saints

New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush had quite a performance on Saturday. Bush, whose NFL career can safely be labeled a disappointment, accumulated 217 all-purpose yards and found the end zone twice in the Saints’ 45-14 thrashing of the Arizona Cardinals. While he has at times flashed glimpses of brilliance reminiscent of his USC days, it finally all came full circle for him in perhaps the biggest game of his life.

To put it another way, Bush brought the wood. While his performance garnered a lot of national attention over the weekend, though, his name is now in the headlines for another reason. According to the NY Post, Bush told longtime girlfriend Kim Kardashian that he would propose to her if New Orleans goes on to win the Super Bowl.

Post:

"Kim Kardashian might be rooting harder than anyone for the New Orleans Saints. She told a radio interviewer her longtime boyfriend, running back Reggie Bush, made a deal with her: If the Saints win the Super Bowl, he'll propose to the voluptuous reality star. Some cynics joked on Saturday that Bush might throw the game, but it seemed from his stellar performance that he's eager to get hitched. He's now just two wins away from holy matrimony."

A couple quick thoughts on this. I was definitely surprised to see Bush and Kardashian get back together earlier this fall; rumors suggested the couple broke up initially after Reggie gave Kim an STD, which they both denied. But, while the element of surprise has been taken out of a proposal, the odds of this report being more truthful than the Post's wedding report on Derek Jeter are pretty high. And an eventual marriage with these two will likely be a disappointing day for those men who appreciate a nice backside and were holding out a false sense of hope at a love tryst with Kardashian. Indeed, this relationship definitely has a much better chance of working out long term than the Khloe Kardashian and Los Angeles Lakers star Lamar Odom faux wedding from this summer. That marriage should be over within the year.

Kim and Reggie, though, look to be a legit couple; I guess he has the ability to bring the wood off the field as well. I just hope Sean Payton, who made a move on Bush on the sidelines this weekend, doesn’t get jealous, causing any drama in the locker room that will negate the goodwill established by the motivational Deuce McAllister signing; by the way, New Orleans' win on Sunday had more to do with the excellence of Drew Brees than signing a well-liked veteran to be team captain for the day.

For the Saints, there are now so many storylines and reasons to root for (or against, especially if you have the hots for Kim) them against the Minnesota Vikings this week. Of course, if the team does end up winning it all in Miami, sportswriters everywhere will have yet another opportunity to use the overplayed column angle that America’s team helped save a fallen city with its inspirational play; Katrina was a terrible, terrible disaster that shouldn’t be made light of, but eventually that column has to be put on hold, doesn’t it? And, now, the gossip rags should be excited about a potential new story to cover that the Tiger Woods story is fading by the day.
