Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox will retire following the 2010 season. For Cox, '10 marks the 50th year that he has been involved in professional baseball. The man guiding the ship for all of those Braves division titles in the 1990s--having Tom Glavine Greg Maddux, and John Smoltz all together in their primes certainly helped--accomplished quite a lot during his tenure. Indeed, he undoubtedly produced a managerial record one can hang their hat on. A career to honor.
Senators Johnny Isakon (R-Ga.) and Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) agreed with that sentiment, and, to show that, recently hosted a ceremony in Washington D.C. to honor Cox for 50 great years.
Like most ceremonies, there was cake involved. Yet, because of an epic spelling fail, in this instance the cake--and not the ceremony itself--is the main reason why the ceremony is unlikely to soon be forgotten.
You see, underneath a picture of the Braves’ stadium, the cake read, in icing, "Thanks For 50 Great Years, Bobby Cocks." He, of course, does not spell his last name that way, the dick way.
