MLB > NL Central

After 30-plus years of failing to give their fans a shiny, new World Series trophy, the Pittsburgh Pirates have now resorted to their second option: Recirculating their old, tarnished World Series trophies back into the market. With just an eBay account—and a sum of money equivalent to what Andrew Carnegie toted around in his coin purse—a Bucs fan can forgo the anguish and uncertainty of waiting for a Pirates title and simply buy one, vintage 1979. While spending $15,499 on championship won’t be as satisfying as seeing the team actually win one, the winning bidder can take satisfaction in knowing they’ve spent more money to acquire a Pirates World Series trophy than the actual Pittsburgh Pirates have.
